University of Beira Interior: Ombuds Office Promotes Integration of Students

The Student Ombuds Office of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) promoted, on December 7, 2021, a debate about the integration of new students at said university.

“Integration of Students at UBI: How and what can be done?” was the motto for the discussion that took place in the Anfiteatro das Sessões Solenes (Amphitheatre) of UBI and counted with the interventions of the Student Ombuds, Jorge Pereira, a new member of ENOHE, and the Rector of the institution, Mário Raposo, as well as the lecture of Nuno Jerónimo, member of the Commission for Equality of UBI.

Being integration an important aspect for the well-being of the student community it is important to reflect about what is done at UBI regarding the integration of students, in general, and, in particular, of students with special health needs and international students, as well as how stakeholders from different areas (arts, culture, sport) can contribute to the full integration of students at UBI and Beira, were the main points addressed in the debate. The event was accessable via live stream, comments and questions were possible via the chat function

In the first part, the practices of students’ integration at UBI were discussed, in a debate between Amélia Augusto (Vice-rector of UBI for Social Responsibility and Social Action), Paulo Almeida (Coordinator of the Student Support Programme of the Faculty of Sciences of UBI) and Ricardo Nora (president of the Academic Association of the University of Beira Interior – AAUBI).

“How can stakeholders contribute to the integration of students?” was the theme launched for the second part of the discussion, which counted with the participation of André Reis (president of the Academic Federation of University Sports), Regina Gouveia (Councillor for Culture of Covilhã City Hall) and Sara Brighenti (sub-commissioner of the National Arts Plan).

In the end of the event, it was also symbolically marked the donation of funds to the Ser Solidário programme of UBI.
